Haitian American Nurses Association of Tampa Florida, Inc.

HANA of Tampa, Inc.: Haitian American Nurses Association (HANA) of Tampa, Inc. was founded in March of 2014 by Ms. Shakema Doreus, RN, BSN, MHA. Ms. Doreus is a Miami native, who made Tampa Bay her home after receiving her BSN from the University of South Florida. Through her nursing experience, Ms. Doreus recognized a disconnect between Health Care Professionals and the Haitian Community in Tampa Bay. There was a profound necessity to establish a professional nursing organization geared towards the healthcare needs of the local Haitian Communities. Ms. Doreus was aware of a preexisting nursing organization in Miami, FL that helped to bridge the gap between how healthcare services were provided to, and received by local Haitian communities.

HANA of Tampa, Inc. is one of 10 adjunct chapters of the Association, with HANA of Florida, Inc. being the original chapter; which was founded in 1984. HANA of Florida, Inc. was formed by Alice Casmir and Jacqueline Dasque to assist Haitian immigrants in Homestead, Florida.
